Buy a laptop or make a Desktop?

I'm having trouble with deciding whether to purchase a new Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p (or something similar), or building my own desktop computer with a total of $1000.30 AUD.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor
MotherBoard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: Kingston 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: MSI Radeon R9 270 2GB TWIN FROZR Video Card
Case: Corsair SPEC-03 Red ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Antec High Current Gamer 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit)
Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WN722N 802.11b/g/n USB 2.0 Wi-Fi Adapter
Keyboard: Gigabyte KM7580 Wireless Slim Keyboard w/Optical Mouse
Monitor: BenQ GW2255 60Hz 21.5" Monitor

I already know, desktops usually perform better than laptops, last longer and so on. Whereas laptops you can take anywhere, having nearly the same gaming performance. I just need help deciding whether to build the desktop above, or purchasing the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p laptop.

I look forward to your answers and I thank you in advance!
P.S. Does anyone know where I could purchase the Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p laptop at its best price on a reliable website?

What is this for? Gaming? Video editing? Your power supply is a bit ont he cheap end, you might want to upgrade that. If you overlook your PSU, you will burn out your other pieces of hardware!

I'm not sure about Australia, but the US Lenovo website occasionally has great sales. Otherwise, newegg.com is a very reliable seller.

I just want to point out that they won't have nearly the same gaming performance or experience; the mobile video cards (even SLI) on the Lenovo won't be as good as the R9 270. The laptop also has the added constraint of heat - it won't perform as well under stress because, no matter how good the fans are, heat gets trapped in a small case. Finally, the monitor makes a big difference - playing on a big screen is more enjoyable than a small one.

Of course, there's portability… If you travel a lot or for long stretches of time, then get the Lenovo.

If it's for gaming you might want to up the budget, because good graphics cards and processors are EXPENSIVE. You'll also want at least 8 gigs of ram/memory.
If that ends up being way out of budget, look at Alienware computers. They are made for gamin, but you will need $100-400 more to be able to get a worthwhile one unless you buy one used of refurbished.
