Why has my battery life shortened?

After my last update on my Lenovo laptop it appears that my battery life has shortened. I just don't think I need a new battery, yet. Should I try going back to a later date to where it might work like before, better?

Was this a Windows or a Lenovo update? Windows does nothing to manage the life of a battery. Any software that affects the battery would be from the vendor of the laptop.

Suggest that you check and see if there might be an update to BIOS or the battery software on the Lenovo web site. It is possible that a Windows update could be blocking the Lenovo battery management. Lenovo should offer an update to fix that if it is the case.

How long have you owned your laptop?

Is the battery detachable?

It could be a software error.

I suggest replacing the battery after every 1.5 to 2 years.

You can't turn the battery back, you need to replace it.

There's a Microsoft bulletin that one of the recent versions of Windows 10 is causing the CPU to run at speeds greater than it should be running. There's a patch to correct this make sure that your updates are all the way done to the very latest version. Because it sounds to me like you have just downloaded the update that makes the CPU run to much. And you haven't finished doing the updates that fix the problem. So first run Malwarebytes to remove any malware that your computer has. Install CC cleaner and use the startup manager to take everything off of the startup list except your antivirus and the word persistent delete everything on that list that says startups except for the word persistence and your antivirus. After you've done these two operations go to update. And check for updates and get the very latest update that fixes the CPU. That's probably why your battery use has increased.

Batteries lose capacity as they get old. System restore isn't going to help you. If you run the battery down all the way, that might recalibrate the computer, but not the battery. Start shopping for a new battery before it's too late.

If you change usage where you are consuming more power, the battery will be depleted faster. If you charge the battery to full capacity, that breaks the battery down. If you drain the battery too low, that breaks the battery down. Batteries also lose life over time as they age but proper charging and usage gives you the longest lifespan. Bright screens consume more power than dark screens.

Your battery life has shortened because yours has!

Most pc's have a battery diagnostics in the bios. A battery contains a number of Cells. Each cell can individually become bad. It is also the case that you should re-TRAIN the pc bios for the battery so that it knows how long it takes to charge and how many cells are good/bad. Retraining is how you normally use a rechargeable item, ie fully charge it, disconnect the psu, fully deplete it, reconnect psu and wait til its fully charged.
