What is the difference between AM3 and FM2 processors, and how do I know which I have?

I'm an amateur desktop builder. So much so that I haven't even built one yet. My current rig is pre-built and is a Lenovo. I want to know what kind of slot my processor can fit into, so I can replace my current motherboard, and eventually everything else that is in my computer.
