Originally, computers that were classed as "IBM Compatible" were manufactured by various computer manufacturers using the IBM Personal Computer architecture. Today, IBM no longer makes Personal Computers (PCs). So, the term IBM Compatible is no longer commonly used. They are now based on the PC architecture and referred to as PC compatible. In the past, the major alternative to IBM compatibles was Apple computers. Because they used a different architecture. However, in 2006, Apple changed their architecture to the PC architecture and can now be classed as PC Compatible.

Today's major alternative to PC Compatible computers is the Chromebook. Since all major manufactures produce Chromebook models. Sorting out PC (IBM) compatible computers by "Brand" is nearly impossible.
