Can't adjust screen brightness after laptop screen replaced?

My screen cracked a while back and ever since it's been replaced, I haven't been able to adjust the brightness (manually or via the shortcut keys). Is there someway to fix this? Or did they give me a screen that can't be adjusted?

I did some googling and found some stuff talking about installing/uninstalling drivers? But I'm not computer savvy enough to figure this out beyond checking windows updates, which says everything is up to date.

I have a Lenovo ideapad S400 with Windows 8.

If it can't be fixed, is there a software I can install that can do the same thing? It's stuck on the brightest setting, making it kind of painful to look at at night.

1)Start
2)search " devmgmt.msc"
3)display adapter > update driver or scan for hardware changesCan t adjust screen brightness after laptop screen replaced
