Going to buy a new laptop?

Since I'm graduating next year(from high school), my dad is going to buy me a laptop. Yet, I do not know which laptop I should buy! I already have HP pavilion dv6 laptop but I'm not really happy with it. It over heat quickly, the battery was dead in like a year and also the screen is messed up; there are two random lines appearing on the screen. So my point is that I'm not really thinking to buy a HP laptop.

What will I use it for:

For school work, I usually play games on it but not like hardcore games(battlefield, farcry etc…). I play games like war thunder and all those games that doesn't require hardcore graphics. I also make videos(usually for school) with adobe products(or sony vegas.

I want a computer that I can easily finish my school work and can easily run games like war thunder. If you know any good laptops please inform me

Added (1). Oh and I'm going for mechanical engineering!

IF you do get to hardcore gaming, I would recommend the Lenovo Y510P

It is really cheap for what is offered, i7 core, which supports Dual Graphics cards (You can get the second one, but you won't need it if you're not going to hardcore games), 8GB RAM

The price ranges from $819 to $1049, but it is going to stand for a really long time.

What kind of course are you going to do? If you are going to an engineering course - you'll need one kind of laptop. If you're going to do an Arts degree (whatever that is) - you'll probably need a high-end Apple Mac to impress your friends.

When you get to college/university, you'll probably find that you get one or two writery-essay sorta things. You might even get some sort of equivalent to homework - where you have to take some piece of class work home to continue working on it. You'll probably have to install the software you're using in college/university.

Well, given what exactly you want it for, i'd recommend an intel core i5 For the processor, maybe 4-6 Gigs of ram and STAY AWAY from windows 8. It'll make your life easier.
They're not super cheap, but its only about $800.00 For a fairly nice one. Other rules: No Asus or Toshiba. Hope I helped!
