I have a lenovo ideapad with windows 8.
The past couple of days I noticed my laptop was much slower than usual when loading videos or webpages so I decided to restart it. Bad idea.
When I opened up a webpage after the restart I started getting bad pop ups. Mostly ads for adblockrs and anitviruses (how ironic) that will open up in a new window when I click certain buttons or try to click off whatever page I may be on at the time.
When I go to different online stores I get a ton of ads and widgets that pop up and will block the shopping page.
I have avg but it doesn't seem to be working on this. I also tried a system restore 3 different times (each earlier than the last) but it hasn't worked. It just started doing this today so I want to get rid of it as soon as possible.
I don't have money to purchase any software right now so I would prefer a free service or instructions on how to fix this myself.
I really appreciate input! Thanks guys!
UPDATE:
I installed an antivirus and it found a lot of bugs which I quickly removed but I'm still getting pop ups like crazy. Anytime I'm in a browser I'm get pop ups from just clicking on a web page.
My computer won't do a system restore. I ran an ad blocker and it's blocking some of the ads.
It's getting worse.
How to get rid of virus? Pop ups?
Download CCleaner and install. Use the cleaner and registry scanner.
It's FREE and available from http://www.piriform.com/.../ccleaner/
Next step is to go to Malware Bytes. Get and Run the FREE version
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Next: Windows Key + R. Type ---> msconfig…
New window, place a dot in "selective startup"
Go To Start up Tab
Remove the check from all programs that are not essential.
This does NOT delete any program, it just prevents them
from running at Start up.
Try adblock
If that doesn't work then if you are using
Chrome:1.In the top-right corner of the browser window, click the Chrome menu Chrome menu.
2. Select Settings.
3. Click Show advanced settings.
4. Under "Privacy," click the Content settings button.
5. Under "Pop-ups," select Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended).
You can reset the browser and delete the unwanted extensions and clean all browsing history.
And try to uninstall the unwanted programs from the control panel.
