How would I know what memory is compatible with a Lenovo G500 laptop?

Alright, so the laptop has factory specs and has
4.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM 1600 MHz
for its ram. What I want to know is if my much old Inspiron 6000's two
1gb 2rx16 pc2-6400s-666-12-a3 will both be compatible if I try to transfer them over to the Lenovo G500.

Added (1). Thanks guys. Wish I had asked this in the first place.

No, they are not compatible; different technologies & speeds.
The modules are also keyed differently so you can't mix them by accident.

You need to either look at the makers specification or go to one of the big memory manufacturers sites - Crucial, Kingston, Corsair etc. - and look the machine up in their list.

That will tell you what the maximum memory is and how many memory modules it will take.

Most laptops only take one or two modules, so if there's no vacant slot you would have to replace the existing module(s) with higher capacity ones.

You can't. PC2 & PC3 are different RAM.

You just got lenovo website you will find everything.
