I have a Lenovo Yoga laptop attached to monitor no sound from monitor?

I have a Lenovo Yoga that is connected by a mini hdmi adapter to hdmi to a monitor.

The computer detects the audio of the monitor its says intel display monitor on the audio device. When I play a video no audio shows up. When I plug in another computer with hdmi there's sound with Hdmi input selected as the audio source.

Added (1). The audio it detects is S2718HN/NX (Intel(R) Display Audio)

Added (2). I look at audio properties and it says HDMI Connected

Added (3). The monitor is a dell machine not a tv.

You need to look at the settings-sound, and make sure the output is directed to hdmi

Your mini hdmi cable may also not be able to carry sound data or the adapter may not carry sound data. You may have a wire that does and adapter that soesnt carry sound or both. If either one doesn't carry sound then you will need to replace it with one that carries sound
