Lenovo y410p Wi-Fi issues?

Just like many other people, my lenovo y410p randomly loses Wi-Fi. I use this laptop for everything, school, gaming, movies, ect. How do i keep the Wi-Fi from crashing while on skype working on a project or while playing an intense game of league? It crashes either everyday or everyother day. People are saying that reformatting or even installing win7 fixes the issue, but i would like to keep win8 and i have nowhere to back up my stuff if i reformat, my usb isn't big enough. How do i fix the Wi-Fi without doing anything major?

If the driver update isn't working for you, you may want to try changing the Wi-Fi channel that your router is using. I know we (the question answerers) constantly try to tell folks that most Wi-Fi routers transmit on the same frequency band as a lot of your household appliances (microwave ovens, cordless phones, your neighbors' Wi-Fi routers, etc.) which can cause interference with your signal.

If you know how to access your router, access the Wi-Fi section and try changing the channel (up or down) by 5. Then save that change and test your connection and see if it behaves any better.

It's probably driver. You can check http://softwarepatch.com/ to see if there's a free download available for your laptop model and then just upgrade it. If your computer is a bit old and this happens a lot with different hardware, then you might just want to get a driver updates program like DriverScanner and it will just download the new drivers for all your devices instead.

Just update or upgrade your WI-fi drivers. Or change your Wi-fi settings.

Update the driver. Or your settings for your Wi-Fi are set to shut off in device manager. Go to device manager and go to the network tab. Right click your adapter and choose properties. Go to the power management tab and uncheck the box.
