My laptop (LENOVO ideapad 510) no longer plays DVDs - I will explain issue. What should I do?

When I got my laptop, the disk drive worked perfectly, as expected of a new computer.

About five months ago, my laptop's hard drive crashed, and I sent it to Lenovo. The replaced, not wiped, the drive and sent the laptop back. Now, I have noticed several things wrong with it.

The issue in question is this: my laptop no longer plays movies. I put a DVD into the drive on the side and push it in. My computer makes whirring noises for a bit, then the whirring stops and nothing happens.

I checked "This PC" and there's no E drive showing up at all.

I tried installing apps from the Windows store that play movies, but nothing works.

This is all I know.

Try removing the device driver, reboot and allow Windows to reinstall it

Return it to Lenovo but that takes a while

Buy an external CD player, they are cheap.

I would try the first and then get an external drive in that order.

Try going into Device Manager and check if the DVD drive is enabled. To open the Device Manager open the Start menu and search for Device Manager in the search box (Windows 7) or use the search box on the task bar if you use Windows 10.

I have answered a similar question twice. The dvd player must be selected to auto launch and open a dvd player program. Use control panel/autoplay and control panel default program.
