My laptop's touch screen has a crack in it?

I don't know where it came from (i'm thinking it's from either my boyfriend's cat walking on it or my leg being on top of the closed laptop? Doesn't matter) but there's a really long, single, hair-thin crack in my lenovo ideapad's touch screen… I've just done some not very extensive searching for a replacement screen and the only one i have found is on amazon for $135 with shipping. My questions are: do i need to replace the screen immediately for fear that leaving it will result in more damage? Can i replace it myself or should i take it in to best buy or somewhere? Will the touch screen still work after replacing it (it doesn't now)?

There's a difference between an LCD monitor and a digitizer. A digitizer is like a glass pane that record touch gestures from your fingers. If I were you, I would get that digitizer replaced before the cracks become more and more visible and jagged.

Here's an example of a device with a cracked digitizer.
