Need a new laptop - advice on best one for me?

My old laptop has recently died - a HP Pavilion DV6-2112sa, and I'm on the hunt for a replacement for it!

I generally used it for storage of pictures and music, browsing the internet and the occasional game. As I'm heading out to uni in September; I'd like one that's able to do the usual mundane stuff but with the option to be a little more powerful for games or fun stuff to keep me entertained in free time haha! Just some advice on a laptop that's portable (but not too small), powerful (but not too expensive) and has good screen resolution for watching films as that's an actual part of my degree!

I've heard good things about Acer, Asus and Lenovo - but if there's any specific models that can be advised that would be great.

Thanks for any help!

Added (1). Up to £400ish is the budget also!

If you go to the Dell website there will be a range of laptops with different screen sizes and prices. If you are watching films a 15 or 17" screen would be advisable.

£400 will probably get you a 15" screen and core i3 processor, if you can up your budget to £500 a core i5 would give much better performance
