Which is better, a 2 in 1 laptop or a laptop with a separate drawing pad?

I'm looking to update my current laptop which is a Lenovo IdealPad Z570 1024 - 15.6".
I've been looking at the Lenvo Yogas and convertibles, as I like the look of them for aesthetic reasons but I also like the idea of using the touch-screen with Photoshop (although it won't be the primary purpose - more often than not I use the laptop for Microsoft office etc) as I'm currently studying illustration.

I'm not concerned with the weight etc, as portability isn't a huge problem. Ideally, I would like a 15.6" or a little bigger, as close to my current laptop as possible. I've narrowed my options down by ruling out tablets and pc's, and detachable 2 in 1s.

when researching various laptops etc I discovered that the 'convertibles' and the 2-in-one laptops didn't have a optical drive which concerns me a little although I'd assume that an external drive can be easily obtained.

as an artist/illustrator would it be more practical to have a 2-in-1 tablet/laptop or a laptop with an external/separate drawing tablet?
any help would be appreciated

The touchscreen doesn't work with Photoshop. So I think you'll want to take a pass on that idea!

To be clear - I'm running Windows 10 on a touchscreen laptop. I have the full Adobe CC suite. When I launch Illustrator, it says that it can tell I have a touchscreen and would I like to switch to the touchscreen interface. I'm not interested, so I haven't even tried. Photoshop does NOT do this. I've searched and searched and seen nothing about using Photoshop with a touch screen and when I try, it doesn't work. I just checked again before I posted this - as an example. I opened a photo, went to the crop tool (I could do that with touch) and found out I couldn't grab and scale with the handles with touch. So I think it's safe to say, it's worthless.

Not to mention that a drawing tablet is meant for drawing. There's much, much more control over pressure sensitivity among other things.
