The 940mx isn't good enough for some software such as 3d modelling, or video work, but the gtx1050 should be ok for that, but 8gb ram isn't enough. If it was me i would see if there was an option to make the ram 16gb otherwise buy something else with a good gpu in it. So neither at the moment. You should be able to reduce something else such as screen type to gain the extra ram. You can always add an external display anyway as the laptop screen won't be good enough for a lot of design work. So order of precedence 4 core cpu min so i7 not always necessary, 16gb min of RAM, Nvidia GTX or possibly different range such as Nvidia Quadro for business use
