My sister gave me her Lenovo laptop that she s been using for a year. I appreciate it since I needed a laptop for college, but she gave it to me with a few problems. For one, there's literally no space to do anything, I uninstalled all the apps, but there's still only 1gb of space on the device. I want to restart it to clear everything out, but I need space to restart it which I don't have. I bought a new sd card (64gb) to see if I could move files and download things to that, but the laptop keeps telling me that there are errors on the card, but there can't be since I just bought it. The second thing is that the Microsoft store and some of the simple functions don't work, like when I want to download a game, it never loads, it just sits there and says download, and when i want to search for something on the device, it says try again later, and the problem can't be the Wi-Fi because it works perfectly on other devices. Third thing is that the laptop goes really slow, when I want to search things on the internet, or use microsoft word, things go incredibly slow, I have a tablet with tons of bugs that go faster. Is there anything I can do to fix this laptop? I would appreciate any kind of advice.
What can I do about my Lenovo laptop?
You can re-install the operating system or delete files (and empty recycling bin)
Has it ever been through an antivirus AND antispyware scan?
Girls seem to be ignorant over all this issue.
Download Avira Antivitrus free and also spybot search and destroy. Run scans with both programs.
Run a scan with free Avast. It can dump a lot of unnecessary things. Check your battery. If it's old, buy a new one on Amazon pretty cheap.
1GB is the size of the RAM, which is small for a computer nowadays, but the only way to get more is to buy it.
The most efficient way would be to factory restore it to defaults and start over. Some Lenovo laptops have a one touch recovery key others use a different method. Update your post with model of Lenovo and we can advise or search Lenovo support site for your model.
Windows free Disk Cleanup. Already there.
Ccleaner, also free.
Windows Defragmenter, also free, also already there.
Reinstall games to the hard disk.
Avast! Or Malwarebytes are necessary to keep your system safe.
My guess is that this is one of those stupid netbooks. They tend to only come with 32GB of space which is only enough to hold the OS, you can't even update it.
I would recommend resetting it. Open the start menu and type "Reset" you will find the reset settings and can bring the PC back to it's factory state. This will resolve any issues with software.
Now for your card. It is possible that your card could be bad. But I frequently connect cards that give me that message but they come from different OSs.
