Attn: Techs - Why isn't my desktop connecting to my Wi-Fi USB adapter /?

I'm trying to install a Wi-Fi usb adapter. My computer does not have a Wi-Fi network connector built in… Thus the adapter.

I follow the instructions that came with the adapter and at the end it displays all the networks and it looks like it gets the computer connected and displays a list of the available network connections… Including the one i want to link too. And for all i can tell it appears as the status is active (network strength indicator on right shows strong signal, Wi-Fi indicator on the left is displayed.

BUT… When i click on the computers network connection status… It shows Not Connected.

Also is it possible that the adapter is connected to the internet but the computer won't connect to it?
I've tried to trouble shoot a bunch of different things… Didn't work.

So, i turn to the wise ones.

Any ideas?

When you looked at the list of available networks did you click on the one you wanted to connect into and provide the correct password etc? It sounds as if the adapter is telling you what is available however YOU have to pick the one you want connected!

Open a CMD window, type 'ipconfig /all' -- and write down what you see for:
- IPv4 address
- Subnet mask
- Default gateway
- DNS servers

After that, type: ping www.NFL.com -- and hit Enter. Tell us what responses you see.
Then type: ping 23.72.121.61 -- hit Enter again and tell us what responses you see. (These are both NFL.com entries)
