Can i put a desktop SSD into a laptop?

Okay so i have a Lenovo y50 gaming laptop, and it has a, i think, 1TB HDD. And i also have a gaming desktop, which has a 120 GB SSD. Can i put that ssd into my laptop?

And if so, how could i only install my windows 10 operating system on to the SSD and keep all my other files?

You can put any SSD as they are all the same form factor namely 2.5", but I wouldn't recommend a 120GB SSD as it is far too small. The Levono only has space for one drive, so you couldn't have both. Also you couldn't carry over the operating system - you would have to back up your data off the SSD then do a clean install from the levono's recovery media to install the original operating system, then upgrade to windows 10, then copy back your files (music, photos, documents) you had backed up. All your programs would need to be reinstalled from the setup files though. With all this you will find your SSD filling up rapidly.

No, far too big.

David is correct. Recovery media is picky on how large the HDD or SSD needs to be to create a partition. You need at least the size of the drive currently in the computer. Anything smaller and you risk wasting your time and money. Once a HDD or SSD is out of box you can't return 9/10 times. Buying a 1TB SSD is possible however very expensive. If you do buy one I would recommend a Intel or Samsung SSD.

All the best
