I have installed a stick of 8GB ram, cpu-z shows the full amount of ram I have but my BIOS and Windows 7 don't?

Lenovo Thinkcentre A70

Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5800 @ 3.20 GHz

64 bit Windows 7 Professional

Lenovo 9CKT11AUS BIOS

Originally had a 4GB stick of ram, added another 8GB, should have 12gb but windows shows 4GB still. Have tried unchecking memory limit box, still no help.

This system doesn't support more than 4 GB of RAM. Even the chipset doesn't support more than a total of 8 GB. You should have done your homework.

Your system was new before the invention of the smart phone.

Memory
1GB standard, supports upto 4GB maximum
PC3-8500 1066MHz DDR3
Two DIMM sockets;
Reads only 2x2GB
Sometimes chipset 82G41 is 4GB max and sometimes 8GB.In 8GB it seems to be a low density double sided sticks.
With that CPU or others compatible to the motherboard, more than 4GB ram doesn't help performance anyway.

That PC is not meant for performance by todays standards.
