Need to clone hdd to ssd and install windows?

So several weeks ago my lenovo thinkpad fell on its side, apparently something went wrong and my hdd couldnt be read. My friend who is more experienced with computers managed to get the hdd recoverable and since I have been able to view and copy data via a usb converter while using the borrowed Macbook Pro from my university. However, when I try to view/open the hdd on a pc, everything says "not responding" and goes to ****. I looked into cloning my hdd to the ssd, both via usb, on the macbook pro, however most of the free software for cloning is not compatible with mac os, so I tried to use Macrium Reflect on the two pc's I'm able to use (one laptop, one desktop) and neither can manage to clone due to the unresponsive drive. Again, on the mac I'm able to open the hdd with no problem.

So what do I do?

If you have both drives connected to the Mac, why can't you simply drag and drop? Cloning is usually only needed to make a bootable drive.

Disk Utility can clone one good drive to another good drive that is formatted Mac OS Extended or MS-DOS File System (FAT-32). Can it clone broken drives? Try it.
- Connect both drives to a Mac.
- Open Disk Utility, and select any drive by full maker's name, not by partition.
- Select the "RESTORE" tab.
- Drag the "Where I Want My Stuff Copied" drive icon to the "Destination" field.
- Drag the "Where My Stuff Is" drive to the "Source" field.
- Click "Restore".
- Wait a long time… Unless both rives are connected by Firewire or Thunderbolt. USB is really slow, especially if other tasks are using the processor, so walk away from it for some time.
