You will need to swap out the old hard drive to upgrade it to a SSD

It looks like you have a few options.
One option would be to remove the hard drive completely and replace it with an SSD.
The other method would be to remove the optical drive (if you don't use it or have one), buy an SSD/HDD caddy for it and install the SSD into that caddy. This would give you the best of both worlds. You can use your SSD as your boot drive and store a few programs on it and use the hard drive as the main storage for your other programs or files.
I have my laptop setup in a similar fashion. I have a 1 TB NVME drive as my boot drive and a 1 TB HDD for other programs and documents. It works fine that way.
