So I just got a new laptop a Lenovo flex, and it comes with windows 8.1 upon entering the start screen everything is fine but no icon/app opens, settings etc. The desktop works fine hence me being able to write this but windows 8.1 just won't work i've tried looking through the settings but there's nothing there to help

Okay, so you have no app tiles on the Start screen. Do you have…
1. The All Apps button in the lower left corner? (Move your pointer there.)
2. Your account name at the upper right, with the silhouette icon?
3. The power options menu button at the upper right?
4. The Search button at the upper right?
Also, can you bring up the Charms bar? (Keyboard shortcut: Windows key + C.)
