I got used to using Windows 8, but a couple of days ago my computer told me that now I can update to Windows 8.1 by downloading it from the store (I have a Lenovo G505s series model number 20255). However, I read several comments of people saying that Windows 8.1 is slower than 8, deletes all your files or at least the important ones afte ryou download it, slow down your drives or you have to install them or update them again after it is done downloading, and so on. This makes me think that it is not worth updating to Windowns 8.1. Does anybody know exactly how Windows 8.1 work, and if it is worth updating to it?
Do I have to update to Windows 8.1?
You should always install all available updates, especially win8.1. If you don't, you will be left out of the update loop, which also includes security updates.
Be careful of this:
When the update list first appears, a checkbox for win8.1 update was not checked, so I checked it. WRONG!
These updates HAVE TO BE INSTALLED IN ORDER. Do NOT install the unchecked 8.1 update until you have installed All OTHERS and have re-started. Took me 3 days to figure this out.
I updated my laptop, An HP Pavilion g6, to 8.1 and started getting Memory leak errors and BSODs. It was pretty messy. That was 4-5 months ago. I asked the Customer support guys and they explained that drivers for my laptop had not been released yet. So I rolled back to Windows 8.
Then I asked them a few days back, and they said drivers and all are available and asked me to update now.
So, if your laptop has the required 8.1 drivers, you can easily update to 8.1. It is actually faster and looks much much better than windows 8. I lost no data at all during the update. If you dislike it, you can just refrresh your PC and youll be back on Win 8. Thats how I did it. This applies only to updating from the store.
Make sure you create recovery discs and that you have the recovery partition of your laptop safe, just in case things go completely bananas.
There's no significant difference b/w win 8 and 8.1. Check for the availability of driver software for windows 8.1. If you have driver soft for win 8. Then it is enough for 8.1 also. Go to windows website for more details about how to upgrade your os to 8.1.
hope this will help you
If you like the current Windows 8, stay with it. All they add in 8.1 is a start button (not really a start menu) and some bug fixes anyway
If you're comfortable using Windows 8 then stick with 8. 8.1 adds a new features, but as it is there's a lot of problems with games and applications, some parts of the system are not stable.
Microsoft won't force you to update to 8.1 right now -- but knowing them they'll try in the future unless they put 8.1 on the new retail discs of Windows 8 -- which in it's current state would be a bad idea.
You can try minitool power data recovery? MiniTool Power Data Recovery contains five data recovery modules - Undelete Recovery, Damaged Partition Recovery, Lost Partition Recovery, Digital Media Recovery and CD & DVD Recovery. Each data recovery module focuses on a different data loss scenario
It can recover deleted data from the Windows Recycle Bin, restore lost data, even if the partition is formatted or deleted, restore data from a corrupted hard drive, virus infection, unexpected system shutdown or software failure. "Updating to Windows" is not moving ahead. It's a move in the opposite direction of productivity.
If you are comfortable with 8, then go ahead.
