So long story short, my windows update was taking way too long (3hrs+) so i stupidly decided to turn off my laptop. Now it goes straight to some blue screen auto repair and won't boot up normally.
my laptop is a lenovo y410p if it helps.
safe mode doesn't work, and i don't have any recent system restore points. The refreshing windows option doesn't work. I've tried googling methods like sfc with the command prompt, and they don't work either.
is my only option to reformat my laptop? I'd really like to avoid this option because i have a lot of assignments on it.
Interrupted windows update, now laptop won't boot [windows 8.1]?

Put laptop's hard disk into an external enclosure and hook to USB or use a simple USB SATA 2.5 inch disk adapter that uses USB power. Take off personal files to another computer.
Then start over with that laptop disk. There's a hidden partition on it for the factory reset image of the C: drive with Windows on it. Use that.
Alternatives to a full current backup of personal files: bankruptcy, early retirement, psychiatric treatment.
