How is Motorola an American company if it's owned by Lenovo?

As long as they are not dealing in defense products a company can be acquired by anyone, Motorola has been a bit of a lost orphan lately since Google could not put it to proper use.

It's history and probably local HQ is in the USA, but the whole company is owned elsewhere. Happens a lot.
