How to record line in audio?

I have a lenovo y5070 with a 3.5 mm jack for earphones and a 3.5mm jack which is S/PDIF. Can i record line in with tha last one? Or that is a port just for transmitting out? I can't set it up.im recording with Reaper and its always recording with the built in mic, i have asio drivers installed

The lenovo y5070 has a combined audio-in & audio-out 3.5mm jack…
Primarily for use with a modern head set that has the 4 pin contacts.
The S/PDIF is for out not in.

Even the user manual states "The combo audio jack does not support conventional microphones by default"
Manual.About ports is in section 17 Page 11

But this is very easy and cheap to over come with a splitter once you have one connect any standard 3.5 mm external mic or an audio source, but it must be correct splitter 4 Pin to 2x 3 Pin 3.5mm.

Some examples for you…

Alternatively get a usb audio card (Very cheap)
Or a stand alone usb mic ( No splitters or extra bits needed ) .

PS…
If you do not take the usb mic route.
When you have your usb audio card or splitter purchased…
You can change default source to be recorded.

Right click your volume speaker icon (Bottom right )
Select "Recording devices"
Click on the icons, via properties you can enable, disable, set as default any of the devices shown.

Thank. I know how to set the recording device i just did not found anyone in the sound settings. So i want to record guitar and that's why i want line in to connect to my effect processor. I have a zoom g1on multi effect pedal which has an micro usb port als. Can i connect it as an usb audio device?
edit: if i buy that splitter i need 3 pin 2.3 or i can plug a 2 pin stereo in it?

Thanks that was really helpful

I have a Lenoa Yoga 3, can I record line in?

For my music production, I need stereo input, so how can I achieve this through the jack, or can I? This will decide whether or not I buy the laptop. USB sound cards are not really an option because they create too much noise and are unreliable.

I have a Lenovo Yoga - I'm not sure how to identify it exactly for you. The Device ID is 7E595FA3-C4C8-4AA0-B8B4-D254F402176E. The computer name is DESKTOP 2BL1886. My question is whether I can record a line-in transfer from an external device, since the 3.5mm headphone jack appears to be only a line-out connection.

Can I connect a microphone to an Ideapad 330 with windows 10
