Boot failure what da bleep?

My laptop is a Lenovo G580. It has windows vista 8.1. It had the boot failure message as it was starting up. So I tried to press f2 it would take me to a place where I have to enter a password. Not sure what the password is. Basically F2 does not take me to BIOS. If I click F12 it brings me to a page that says boot manager then it has two options: EFI NETWORK 0 for IPV6 OR EFI NETWORK 0 for IPV4. If I click on either of them it says boot failed - checking media. Then a blue box pops up and says default boot device missing insert recovery media and hit any key then select boot manager to choose a new boot device or boot recovery media.

I Don't have any recovery media. Not sure what that is. So basically clicking F2 brings me to a password screen and clicking F12 brings me to that boot failure page.

Please help me at least be able to save my files. Can I get into Bios at least? Or do I have to take my hard drive and put it in an external thingy?

Your password is the one you use to sign onto the computer when you get the windows login screen.

No the password is not the same as the login password. The F2 password can only be 7 characters.

First follow the primitive actions:
1 Remove the AC Adapter and the battery from your computer
2 Hold the Power Button down for 15 sec.
3 Reconnect the devices and turn on the Computer. Keep continuously pressing F2 or Fn + F2
Are you now able to get into BIOS?

If it's not helping, you need to perform an Automatic Repair booting from the Windows 8 installation or system recovery media. As you told you don't have any recovery media, you can create an installation media using: http://windows.microsoft.com/...t-key-only
