Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour LAN network problem?

I've been trying to set up a generals game the past couple hours on the local LAN network, but my laptop won't connect or something with the other computer. In the game lobby (multiplayer > network) we see each other's name in the player list, and when I make a game he can join just fine, but when I press play game and the next loading screen starts (the one with the general's name/picture at the top and the description of the units) it doesn't work.

On my screen, my loading bar fills all the way, but his doesn't even start. On his screen, the two bars fill completely and the game starts, but it immediately freezes and has that timeout screen where you can vote to kick players or quit the game. Meanwhile my screen is still stuck. Can anyone please help?

BTW I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 with windows 8 installed

Sounds to me like on off your PC is not capable to run this game maybe his word your graphics card is not powerful enough, check the minimum requirements and compare with that two PC thanks ian.

I played this game countless times before with other computers on network and it ran flawlessly, but its the first time I'm playing it with his computer on the local network so there might be something wrong with that
