Computers keep breaking?

So my computers keep breaking and I'm not sure why. Here's the details.

In the last year and a half, I've gone through 2 laptops. The first one was a cheap HP with an A6 processor and 4GB ram. Had it for about a year, all of a sudden it crashed and automatically shutdown. I was having issues with it, tried to factory reset, and it failed. Took it in to a local computer place and they said it needed a hard drive and I'd have to rebuy windows. Approx. Cost was $250ish so I saved up money and bought a better laptop after about 2 months of no computer.

Laptop 2 was a Lenovo with an A12 processor and 8GB ram, so I was happy with the upgrade. Used it 3 months when it fried… Bad. I tried to boot it up, which took 7 hours, then went to factory reset. It sat at the "start reset" screen for approx. 3 hours and then the reset started. 10 seconds after it started, the reset failed, and the computer restarted. Repeated the process 3 times, with no solution.

I'm curious as to why the computers broke, as I plan to buy another one and don't want the same thing to happen, as I use my laptop often. Any thoughts on why they both failed? I know for a fact neirher had a virus, as I did virus scans often. Please don't say they broke because of what brand they were just because you like a different brand. I'd like actual insight so this doesn't happen again.

I would say if you want a laptop to last a while, you should get one that has better qualities. Get one that's at least in the minimum $1000 range. Get a gaming laptop if necessary, even if you aren't a gamer. Their performance is sky high and can do almost anything. They also last a long time. I only got mine in May but it's the best laptop I've ever gotten even without the Gaming part. It's just a High-Performance laptop and it's awesome.

But that's just my input.

You could try buying a good quality surge protector and only charge on that outlet. When you buy your new laptop - think about getting it at a retailer that offers a service plan. Normally, I"m not a fan of the plans, but it's probably justified in your case.

It depends to some extent how they are treated, if they are used on the bed or on your lap they may run at a higher temperature shortening the lifespan of the components including the hard drive. Do you take them to school? Do they get dropped?

You may have just been unlucky. Although if you buy at the cheaper end of the market, the laptops are built to a price and reliability can suffer

You have found that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I don't blame the computers.

You either have incredibly bad luck or you are doing something to cause problems.

If you are lucky there's a computer user group in your area- join it! Go to apcug.org and search for a group in your area.

How hard do you run them? I burned out the CPU in one of mine because I ran midsize games on it, and it would max the computer out for long periods of time and heat up.

Now I buy em with more power than I need and they handle the job with ease. Just a thought.

Fastest way to kill a laptop computer is to restrict the airflow that cools it. Laptops have vents on the sides and bottom to allow airflow to cool the components so if you set it on any surface that isn't hard (table, desk, cool pad) you can easily block the vents and cause the laptop to heat up. New, faster, or bigger laptops produce more heat faster and can damage components in just a few minutes.
