As of yesterday my lenovo laptop will not start and instead says that a "boot configuration data file is missing" on a blue screen. The laptop came with windows 8 so I don't have any installation disks but I was told I could fix this just by buying a new installation disk. Is this true?
Do i need to buy windows 8?

No. Contact Lenovo about your installed Win 8 that you paid for along with the laptop. They will show you how to repair the Lenovo.
Most laptops sold without disks tell the new user to make a recovery DVD immediately.

Well, Lenovo might sell you a Windows 8 installation disc since you seem to be having problems with the HDD, but you could try somebody else's copy to see if that will work, or just figure out if you can access the repair partition somehow.
