How do I get the mouse cursor back on my laptop? - 1

I have a Lenovo laptop and after one of my cats walked across the keyboard my cursor disappeared. I have no clue what they hit and no idea how to get it back. People keep telling me to go to setting and click on different things, but I have NOTHING TO CLICK WITH.

It sounds as though the touchpad has been disabled. Look at the function keys across the top of the keyboard, and see if one shows a representation of the touchpad and buttons, possibly with a diagonal line through it. This is the touchpad disable key, which can be very useful if you are typing and your hand brushes against the touchpad. You can find that you have suddenly started entering text in a different part of a document from where you intended. Disabling the touchpad stops this from happening.

I had an old laptop some years ago that had a specific disable button near the touchpad that served the same purpose.

The normal operation of a keyboard is that the function keys (the top row on the keyboard) provide their function codes (F1, F2, etc); however, if the Fn key (normally to the bottom left of the keyboard) is held when a function key is pressed, then the alternative use of the function key is produced. On some Lenovo laptops (and possibly other makes), there's a setting in the BIOS that reverses the operation of the function keys. If this setting is on, then the Fn key has to be pressed to get the function codes (F1, F2, etc) and the alternative use is the default when the Fn key is not pressed.

My guess is that the cat has activated the touchpad disable function. Normally the mouse pointer will not appear until it is moved, which won't occur if the touchpad is disabled.

You just have to find the correct key and whether the Fn key should be held down at the same time.

Thank you, I had the same thing happen to me. My cat walked across my key board. Luckily I have touch screen to get by until I found your article. I used the F6 key and my cursor came back.

worked for me, it is the key above (and between) the 5 and the 6 , next to the refresh key so that's probably how it happened

Thanks

Thanks.
