How to pick my laptop (multimedia arts student)?

I have no idea on how will i pick a laptop for my course i'm not familiar with those Hgz, processor, intel core etc etc
but a friend recommend me this:

Recommended specifications for laptops:
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i5-2430
MEMORY: 4 GB DDR3
HARD DISK DRIVE: 500 GB SATA

could you please explain me this and i'm thinking of buying lenovo or asus
and maybe you could recommend me some laptop models too

Apple might be better than a Microsoft machine. Ask instructors, other students.

Sadly, overpriced Apple laptops are what most media/art and publishing professionals use. For example, at the Microsoft Surface event.

Another option is the Microsoft Surface Pro tablet, if you will benefit from a pressure sensitive stylus (drawing, painting), simply because there are no Mac tablets.
