How did you actually turn off your cursor in the first place?

Maybe you mean the trackpad. Sometimes there's a button on the keyboard for disabling and enabling the trackpad, and sometimes you have to press the Fn key + one of the F1-F12 keys with a symbol of a trackpad to toggle it.
