I can't get my wired internet to work on my laptop?

I purchased a laptop computer(Lenovo; Windows 7 Professional) from China but I have a problem with my internet. The situation is that when I use wireless internet(Wi-Fi) the internet works just fine on my laptop, but when I switch to wired internet I can't connect to the internet. My computer displayed that nothing is wrong, that I'm connected to a network and to the internet, but when I try to go to a site I get messages like "Internet Explorer can't display this webpage" or "This webpage is not available". When I use another laptop(from the US) with the same wired internet connection, I could go to the sites with no problem at all. The only one that's wacky is the Lenovo laptop I brought from China. Of course, it worked just fine when I was in China but displayed all these problems when I used wired internet on it in the US

Forgive me for my lack of better terminology, I'm not much of a computer person.

Seems like your windows update has some how corrupted your wireless card drivers. Go to device manager and remove your wireless card from the list and then restart your computer. The windows 8 shell auto discover your wireless card and install appropriate driver for your wireless card. Your laptop must have come with a Drivers CD if not go to manufacturers website and download Wireless adapter driver and save them on your D drive before you remove your wireless card from your device manager.

Your laptop is connected to your Ethernet cable right? And your Ethernet cable is connected to your router right?

Also, when you switched to wired internet, you may or may not have switched router security as in the host name of the router, and a new password. You may have to fill that out to reinstate your wireless internet.
