When I checked in device manager there were only wireless choices as default not wired. It did work for a minute but now it looks like the laptop is not detecting this hardware. There's a green light lit up whre I plugged it in. It is not usb but regular fitted plugs with spikes. Laptop is ibm thinkpad. Monitor is ibm thinkvision.
I plugged a wired monitor monitor into my laptop but it only worked for a minute?
Yeah
Use the function key and F5 or F6 key with a coloured square
Fn + F5 and a menu with 4 options should appear
if windows vista or win 7 you can use
the windows logo key + P to get the same menu up
Very vague on the details here so I will do the best I can.
If you are running windows Vista/7:
- Right click any blank area on the desktop (Not on an icon/shortcut)
- Click on screen resolution
- A dialogue box will open that will allow you to set up all connected display devices.
If you are running windows XP:
- Right click any blank area on the desktop (Not on an icon/shortcut)
- Click on properties
- Go to the "settings" tab
- You can manage your connected displays from here.
Make sure that you keep an eye out for a keep these settings message box so the computer doesn't switch back to the initial settings before connecting the display.
Also, make sure that your graphics driver is up-to-date
