I was wondering if there's a specific process you need to use for the Ethernet cable?

So I plugged in the cable directly from my router and into my computer. It says Ethernet on the computer where to plug it in. Any particular reason it won't take in the internet? Do I have to click anything
I have a Lenovo ThinkPad

Assuming default settings in Windows, the computer should detect the ethernet cable, and send a request for an IP address and other network information automatically.

Assuming your router is already configured to access the internet, then your laptop should be able to do so as well - no other intervention on your part is required.

Do not use the yellow port on the router, there should be a yellow input cable occupying that slot. Use your cable from one of the outputs to the connector on the computer. The connectors are called RJ45

Did you try restarting the computer to make it read and recognize that it was plugged in?

- Make sure one end of the Ethernet cable is plugged into a port on your router labeled LAN1 thru LAN4.
- What sort of error msgs are you getting?

Wait what? When you're wired in, the little Wi-Fi signal icon changes to a computer with a cable on the left of it. Means you're connected.
