Upgraded old dual core cpu with quad core cup and now the pic won't boot up?

The motherboard and the new cup both have the lga775 socket so I don't understand what the problem is. The "new" cpu is an Intel core 2 extreme qx6700. Can anyone help me understand what the issue could be? Because clearly the socket isn't an issue and I thought that was pretty much the determining factor. Sorry for making anyone think hard since its older hardware. I don't have the budget for anything new right now so I'm trying to make do. The pc is a Lenovo ideacenter k300.

The motherboard just may not be compatible even though it has the same socket

First off, make sure you're plugging your monitor into your video card (if you have one) and not the motherboard. It's also possible that the heat sink is not sitting properly on the CPU which would also cause your PC not to boot.

Same socket does not guarantee a different processor will work. The BIOS needs to know about the new processor, and whether it is supported. In your case, check into BIOS updates, there may be a small chance there's an upgrade that will handle the new CPU. Otherwise, maybe not…

Has to be compatible to socket, core logic, acceptable power (wattage), not bios blocked in a list.

Intel shows compatible chipsets
Intel® 975X Express Chipset, Intel® P35 Express Chipset, Intel® P965 Express Chipset, Intel® X38 Express Chipset, Intel X48 Express Chipset

Any of three things can be wrong.
Chipset not compatible. No evidence that a QX6700 is compatible with Intel G43 Express chipset
Wattage too high for the motherboard
Not in an approved list.

QX6700 is a 10% underclocked QX6800
May be the same CPU as a Core 2 Quad Q6700 since score of speed makes sense
But, they show officially different, even though it is just called a lower TDP

In any case, what you found for a part is questionable.
Q8300 is supposed to be OK
Q6700 may be OK
QX6700 has conflicts

Sorry to necro would an e8400 work? I thought it would but my computer is just on a black screen
