Is Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E531 Core i5 good for an engineering student?

I need a laptop for 5 years, I will start university next week so I want to get a laptop for studying, reading books, using the net and watching HD movies.

I want to pay $700 for the laptop, and couldn't find any other one in the store expect this with that price…
