Is the i5 2520m processore first or second generation?

I'm considering buying a lenovo x220 that has this processor.

are 1st and 2nd generation both out dated now and shoud i be looking at newer laptops?

Second generation sandy bridge processor, still kind of good for some gaming should be looking into the intel haswell mobile i5 or i7 quad processor a lot better performance
