Lenovo ideapad Boot device problem

My laptop opens normally and suddenly it goes off and a black screen appears with " No booting device. Insert boot device and press any key"… Any ideas what this could be. And what can I do to fix it as soon as possible?

Do you have a DVD or a USB plug attached to your computer. If so you might need to open up the boot loader options in the BIOS and change them to boot from your hard drive first and is included in the boot process. The second thing I would try is to make sure that the hard drive is still good. Try downloading Ubuntu iso file and burning it to CD with cdburnerXP or if you have a more recent OS such as Windows 7 or Windows 8 or Mac OSX leopard or newer you don't need to burn it with cdburnerXP. See if all the hardware is good. Run it in "live mode" or click try. You do not have to install it to a hard drive. Hopes this leads to a speedy recovery. Rob

Most likely your hard drive has failed. You need to replace it.

The computer is set to boot from a list of devices.
It goes through the list until it finds one.
When it can't find a device it makes the user aware with the message "No booting device. Insert boot device and press any key"
Inserting can be a disk, a USB flash drive etc…
The hard drive is in the list, because it DOES boot to it.
But something is interrupting the hard drives ability to maintain its connection to the computer.

It sounds like your hard drive is either loose (rare) , or it is failing.
Your best bet is to pull the drive & re-insert it.
If it does it again, BACK UP the data as soon as you can.
Remove the drive & connect it to a device like this and transfer the data to another PC or an external drive.
