Some things to check:
1. Make sure it's got the microphone icon not the headphone icon where it's plugged in.
2. Make sure the volume is up on the microphone. This can be in multiple places together, any of them turned low or off could affect it. So, the external dial for volume if it has one, the system volume controls, the software volume controls being used, and the website volume controls if recording onto something like youtube.
3. If it's none of these, search the computer for device manager, open it, and check the drivers there to see if the microphone driver can be installed, updated, or reinstalled from there. If it's not there at all, google the manufacturer of the microphone and search there for the drivers to install.
4. If none of these work, contact the manufacturer
PS: if you mean microphone/headset combo, it would still plug into the headphone jack not the microphone jack after all but might not be supported.
