My laptop freezes when I play games despite it being better than my older one, How can I fix that?

I'm using a B50-70 lenovo laptop, it has 6 GB ram and 2GB vga ATI card, it's way better than my old one but it's not running the games anyway better than my old laptop, the graphics are god, but games freeze when something bright or a new part of the map load, some games recover, other crash and other just freeze, I have all my drivers up to date (As far as I'm concerned) and the laptop is fairy new and its mostly empty.

I need help as I can't enjoy anything as much as I thought

Use drivereasy to update all the drivers - clean out all the junk from your hard disk you can and tidy it up - move pics video and music to a stick - unplug any external drives - see if there are any patches for the games - run a decent antivirus

I'm not sure if this would cause the issue, but how are your CPU temperatures when you're doing these things?

Several possibilities are involved here.
Certainly, it would help if you stated WHICH 2GB AMD card you refer to. 2GB is an amount of dedicated memory that does not define the performance and could even be the same DDR3 of the system and not the better GDDR5. What game or games are you referring to? What CPU in the system? How much system ram? What operating system? You state nothing about the actual laptop performance or even provide the exact model number to look it up.
Down Belarc Adviser and collect information if you can't do it yourself:

It could be overheating. It could be you are not plugged into AC power and are running of a CPU graphics. It could be a game with higher requirements than your system can handle smoothly. It's likely you listened to a store or advertising that the laptop is better than it really is. Did you get the drivers from the Lenovo web site where they are supposed to be? Laptop graphics cards are custom. Are you playing while the laptop is on a smooth hard surface? Is there dust and dirt buildup in the system? Are you in a hot room?

Too many questions to know what is wrong and how to fix it yet, or if it can be fixed.

Iff your hdd is full that can make gaming freezing an issue just make sure you got plenty of space and keep evrything up to date same problem happened to me

I'm also thinking it getting to hot but I would look at msconfig under startup see what running whenn you first boot up all your games, browsers and most apps don't need to be running at bootup only stuff from Microsoft, Intel or Amd and your should be running

Run the game in compatibility mode.
also try by windows 7. Because windows 7 is compatible than win 8
