My laptop is 32-bit after service?

My Lenovo Z580 had a hard disk error 6 weeks ago, and I had to send it to Lenovo for them to repair it.

I received my laptop today and sent it to a computer technician to reinstall the Windows 8, since Lenovo wouldn't install it for us. (Note the computer technician is a good friend of mine) He asked me for my previous Windows 8 serial and disc so he can install Windows 8.

When I received it back my laptop states that it only has 3.13 GB of RAM and is a 32-bit. Before I sent it, it was 8 GB of RAM and is a 64-bit.

Your technician is an idiot then. I've had something similar happen. I had w7 and go it back with win vista. Then they put w7 back on but with 32 bit instead of 64 bit and an illegitimate copy -.- eventually got it fixed in the end.

Why would you have to get a technician to reinstall w8? It's pretty straight forward and you could have just set your computer to factory default instead of sending it to lenveno.

The technician installed the 32 bit instead of 64 bit w8. With the ram, I'm pretty sure 32 bit OS can't handle as much ram but they can use older programs, so your computer can't use it unless you format it and reinstall the 64 bit.

I hope they didn't charge you to format your computer then reinstall w8 when anyone can do that for free…

Yep, echoing Bob. Your technician doesn't know what he is doing.

32-Bit only supports 3.5GB RAM Maximum. 64-Bit supports much more. There are also differences in the way that the processor executes the commands it is given.

Yes, you can run a 32-Bit OS on a 64-Bit processor however the RAM will not be fully utilized and processing performance will be reduced as it isn't optimized for such usage.

The Windows 8 install has both 32 bit and 64 bit in the same DVD… He obviously chose the wrong one.
