On my new laptop, when I have audio playing, and I plug in speakers, the sound changes. What's wrong?

Here are the details:

I have a new Lenovo y510p laptop, great computer btw, and it runs Windows 8.1

Whenever I have music playing, or anything else with audio, and I plug in speakers, ANY speakers, the sound sounds good for a split second, then it lessens in quality and noise.

Most laptops will auto switch to plug in port when connected. The laptop speakers will no longer work. Go into Control Panel and then sound, to calibrate the new speakers. This is normal! Cheers with the new Lenovo.
