Sound only playing through speakers even though headphones are plugged in?

I bought a brand new Lenovo laptop today, and whenever I plug in my headphones, the sound only plays through the speakers and I can't figure out how to fix it.

There's probably something wrong with the wires in your headphones. If you have a friend who has headphones, see if they work with your equipment.
