Should I buy a Mac or an HP laptop?

I'm going into a Fine Arts degree this fall and I'm trying to make the choice between a Mac laptop or an HP laptop. I will be focusing my major in sculpture and not graphic design, so I don't know if the Mac is worth it for the price. I would have to buy the cheapest and smallest option they have which is still a couple hundred dollars more than the HP Envy that I'm looking at. They both have the hardware that I need, but I asked my academic advisor and he said for sure to buy a Mac because it's best for art students. I've done research, but I just haven't found a clear-cut answer.

There was a time when mac WAS the clear cut winner for those in the graphics design field. This was when Apple used their own RISC based processors, however. Now that apple runs Intel cpus that are exactly the same as any PC, they're not the clear cut choice anymore. Personally, I would get a PC (Toshiba, Asus, and Lenovo typically score higher in terms of customer satisfaction and rate of repair at Consumer Reports), and get as high a spec machine as you can. Something with a discrete graphics card, fast cpu, and solid state drive would be the order of the day for what you're looking for. Lots of ram, too. If you find for some ungodly reason you need Mac OS, you can always change from Windows to Mac OS, or you could say screw em both and run Linux on em. Or dual boot. Options abound, whatever you get, make sure the software package you will be using in college has a version for the platform you'll be using. Most do.

Have you looked at Asus. Just yo like it, It is very efficient and worthy.
