Unique problem with my lenovo laptop?

I'm not sure how to even word this. I will be working on it and it will suddenly restart. Except it does not turn all the way off. If I restart it manually it takes a few minutes to load. When it does this it's only on the loading screen for a few seconds. It just suddenly is on the lenovo loading screen then it goes to the lock screen. When I put in my password everything I had opened is gone and all the programs that pop up when I turn it on restart.
I can't do anything on my computer because unless I save every 5 seconds I risk losing my work. Any ideal how I can fix this without wiping my computer?

Sounds like a hardware issue. Try re-seating the ram and hard drive if you can get at them, blow out the inlet and outlet for the cooling fan, might be over heating video chip. When you're using it make sure air can get underneath the laptop.

Of course its unique according to your logic…

Seems like overheating. When the processor is too hot (which happens a lot in laptops) the computer shut down by itself to prevent the cpu to be hurt. That's why you can't start it right after i guess. Try to get the dust out of the computer and try it again.
