Would I need to replace something in my laptop or just the HDMI cable?

I stupidly plugged in my external monitor's HDMI cable after it'd been in contact with liquid and now the connection is really weak. When the screen's not flickering blue, everything is kind of blurry. I know very little about computers but one of the little metal prongs in the cable looks like it's corroded in battery acid or something now. What needs to be done to fix this? Would the repair be cheap? I'm using a Lenovo x60 Thinkpad IBM.

Added (1). It's a VGA cable, actually! Sorry. Not HDMI.
