How to watch TV and use my laptop at the same time with hdmi cable in Windows 8?

I figure out how to have full screen using the hdmi cable, but I still don't know how to be able to watch something on TV, and use my laptop at the same time (for example, if my dad wants to watch tennis using the hdmi cable on tv while connecting the hdmi cable to both the tv and my laptop so that the streaming video can be shown on the TV, how can he watch tennis while I'm using the PC? I have tried this, but I only found a way that he can watch TV, but I won't be able to use the laptop). I still don't know how to program this correctly so that I can watch TV (or someone else) while I'm using the computer at the same time. By the way, I have a Lenovo computer from the G505s series with Windows 8 (model number 20255).

You'll need a TV with picture-in-picture support, which displays one input full screen and the other in one corner. That used to be quite common but it's getting rarer these days - some Sonys have it as do some of the Samsung smart TVs. Check your TV's manual to see if it has the option, but as noted isn't common, and when I wanted to replace my bedroom TV about 18 months ago I had to actively hunt down TVs that offered it.

I don't think Andrew S quite understood your dilemma. You do not need PIP on your TV to do what you want to do.
1. Connect your laptop to your TV using HDMI.
2. Go to the Desktop screen on your laptop. That's the one without the tiles.
3. *I believe, your PC has an AMD graphics card. So open AMD Catalyst. If you can't find it, download it from here: http://www.amd.com/...alyst.aspx
4. Then you can drag around the screens to fit your needs. Remember that you do not want the screens to mirror each other.
5. Open the video stream. Drag the window to either the right or left, and you'll see enter your TV screen.
6. Now you can use the laptop as you usually would.

*If you do not have the AMD card as I thought, go to the desktop. Then right click, select Screen Resolution. And then you can proceed starting with #4.
