The salesguy at Frys told me IBM makes the Lenovo and I told him it was a brand I never heard of. Both had same memory and speed, nearly identical in what's in the cube box computer tower. Just a price difference. One on sale Gateway savings $100 the other is not. Lenovo owned by IBM?
What computer is better Gateway or Lenovo?
Lenovo is better.
No, Lenovo is not owned by IBM and IBM does not make the computers.
IBM sold their personal computer business to Lenovo around 2004/2005. Lenovo could use the IBM Thinkcentre and Thinkpad brand names and sell IBM computers for 5 years according to the original agreement, but now Lenovo is marketing its own ideapad and ideacentre brands also.
I, myself, would buy a Lenovo over a Gateway.
Lesson - salesmen don't know anything sometimes.
Lenovo is better, especially in the laptop catgory. Gateway always leaves me with a sick feeling in my gut… After a company I worked for a few years ago, bought a whole network of Gateways (about 30 computers) and EACH AND EVERY HARD DISK UP AN DIED within a two year lifespan… I say, no thanks to Gateway. It might be the company bought cheap computers, but then, they should have lasted longer than 2 years.
